how fo you guys print on colored shirts?

I'm asking for some opinions on white ink base. I dont want to have so much
ink build up that the shiert is "bulletproof". I have been told to make the white under a solid a halftone dot then come back with a hilight white plate to double hit the areas of white which are to remain white.

Essentially its all how you perceive what the white should look like on the garment. Most people expect pure white which entails a print flash print in order to get a good opaque print. That "Bulletproof" look and hand.

What you were told is somewhat correct. A lot of times you cannot just do a halftone underbase for certain colors. Printing 2 whites for dark shirt printing is the best way to keep a soft feel. Essentially the white can still be a full solid underbase. The trick is in the printing. Using a looser white ink and higher mesh frame. Layin just enough to make the top colors pop. Than you print the highlight white using a super bright white. We do this with 90% of the jobs in our shop. makes for a softer feel and faster production rate.
We use
Wilflex Buffalo White for underbase whites (all purpose white prints)
wilflex Tiger white for Highlight white pritns and white print on light shirts.
