Default epson cx6000 for transparencies

I read a lot about the importance of a good printer for transparencies. is dpi the main spec to look for in regards to quality since it is just a black and white image on a transparency?

I have an epson cx6000. the specs are:
Stylus CX6000 Inkjet Printer Product Details at PriceGrabber
5760 dpi horizontal
1440 dpi verticle

And I know this has been discussed before but maybe some preferences have changed: does anyone suggest a good place, to purchase transparencies? Good brand? I am in the SF bay area if anyone wants to suggest a nice place for a brick and mortar.
