Default carbon based screens

I am using a system sold by xpresscreen that uses screens that are opened by carbon straight from artwork printed on a laser printer or copier. We have been using this system for many years but my operator does not like it and we always have problems with pinholes that have to be taped before printing which takes a long time. We are considering different equipment, does anyone use this type of system or have any suggestions.

There are several threads on the forum about this equipment. Opinions vary depending on the type of work you are doing. Search Xpress or start here first: xpress screen

Pinholing is discussed in one of the threads I have seen.

If your operator does not like the equipment have him pay for a new system that he will like

He/she may change their mind then.

As a printer my perspective may be different, but I think if the boss doesn't use the equipment then they should listen to the workers who do.

I haven't used the xpress system before, as I use direct emulsion (and the occasional paper stencil). I was under the impression that it was more of a semi-pro/short run system though, rather than a way to run a shop.

thanks for your imput, I actually do use the equipment on occasion when someone is out, but it is what I learned on and it is all I know. I know we spend 20 - 30 minutes taping pinholes on every screen and can't print close registration work or small print. It is getting us by, this is small part of our commercial printing operation and we print about 500 shirts per week and I am considering a traditional system. Do you know anything about the workhorse brand.

have you thought about a vinyl cutter to cut a negative instead of weeding the background, you weed out the part you want to print. There is something about it (a good post) somewhere either here or on the internet somewhere. I just can't remember where. Sorry.
