Default What is your typical turnaround

Hi all
What is your typical turnaround on an order ?

Does it vary by how many shirts you print?

When someone wants them quick, do you charge a rush fee?

If so, how soon is considered Rush?

How much do you charge for rush?

I charge a 20% rush fee if I have to really go out of my way to get an order done (like working nights or weekends) and if the customer seems like they would be willing to pay it.

My typical turn around is 2 to 10 business days. It depends how much I have going on and what day of the week the order is placed, because I normally only order and pickup blank shirts once a week. Examples: I have a big order (for me) of 155 5color front/1color back shirts, got the deposit Wednesday I think, and it might be early next week before they are done and ready for pickup, because contract work has popped up this week that takes priority. But I also got an order Friday that I completed yesterday (the following Monday). It was quick and easy and the customer was blown away that I finished the order the next business day.

i usually say 4 days minimum, 7 days max

I dont stock shirts at the moment, I order them as i get the jobs, and the warehouse is in the same state

so if i order today before 5, I will have them tomorrow some time... then i have 2 days to make my 4 day minimum...

You know, I was just talking about this yesterday. I am going to have to start charging a rush fee. Everybody has a rush order-60-70% for us. I say 5 day turnaround, but it's usually 1-3 days and I have the job done.
I rush, they dont pick up the shirts until they're good and ready. Got an order on the shelf now.
I wanna do 30% rush fee plus 100% cash up front.

It all depends how much I have going on. I always add at least an extra day to when I think I'll get it done

I don't do screen printing. I do plastisol transfers, ink jet, and embroidery. I schedule ten days out in most cases. I have some customers who want things quicker. If they are a good customer, I normally do my best to accomodate them. If i pay a higher fee to gets thing expedited to me , I add that cost plus 10% to cover my time. I can normally get things done in a timely manner. I do memorial shirts and they must be done in a rush and there is no higher cost for them. I think if you schedule and maintain it, you should have little problems meeting deadlines. ..... JB

Our policy is 10 business days, but most of the time the order is done sooner, and when I call the customer to let them know its ready thay are happy and I look good for getting the job done "early"

What do you guys do if you want to charge a rush fee of whatever percent, but the customer doesn't want to pay it? I've only charged a rush fee a couple of times actually, when I knew the customer would be okay with it because I had to truly rush to get them out the door quickly. If I know they can afford it, I charge it, but what do you do if it's only sorta rush and you want to charge a rush fee and they say no, but still want to place the order with you?

"Thanks for stopping, have a nice day!"

everything has an associated cost... if they don't wanna pay it, BYE!

they can't MAKE you print the shirts...

I'm not at a place where I can turn down a good order just because they don't want to pay a rush fee... I consider a rush fee just bonus for busting my butt to get it done. I can still do a quick order without a rush fee. I wouldn't turn away a profitable order just because they don't want to pay 20% extra...

heres how I would word it to the customer:

Our policy is 10 business day turnaround time, if you need the order inside of 5 days there is a 20% rush charge because other customer orders will have to be bumped and my production schedule will need to be rearranged (let them know they are not your only customer)

if its a good order and you think they may not use you due to this charge, tell them you'll waive the rush fee for them this time. This will endear them to you and you may have a customer for life.

Drue is always full of good ideas.

People don't like when I mention a rush fee. Really I've only done it a few times. One time this woman said something like "well it's not super rush, but I do need them by such-and-such date, but I want to avoid the rush fee" and it was a $1k order which is big for me so I waived the rush fee because I was making a good profit per shirt anyway. And she of course appreciated me not charging her $200 extra.
