Hey my fellow t-shirt makers. I just bought a speed ball deluxe screen printing. Im a beginner to screen print but i have worked with plastisol transfers. Please tell me i did not spend $95 for nothing or was it worth it for a beginner. It came with dvd, instruction booklet, 3 acrylic paint, 2 fabric paint etc. was it worth it.
Probably not - for one thing Speedball isn't all that good, for another you can get it cheaper online (the first result in Google was two thirds RRP for example).
That said, whether or not it's worth it depends on what you get out of it - $95 isn't a lot of money, so if you use it it's worth it.
Please do share with us, your results and pic if you can.
From the other poster,, when you said Speedball isnt that good, did you mean the ink? Just wondering, as I am newer to screen printing as well,.
thanks
Sandy Jo

I meant the quality of the screen and the squeegee. The kit I looked at was pretty flimsy anyway. I've heard some complaints about the inks from people here on the forums, but I've never used Speedball ink myself (it's horrendously expensive here - I don't know why anyone even bothers to import it).
Hello sorry it took me so long, been working but i did try it and i left it to long under the light and the light bulb burned the plastic transfer paper the worst part is that it left that mark on my screen i removed most of it but the middle is to burnt up to remove.
I'm going to try again. I did see some of the pic transfer through to the screen, its going to look hot Ill still post the pic when i do it and ill let you know how the paint turns out.
If there's an A.C. moore near you, you can get speedball kits there. You can almost always print up a 40% off anything coupon on their website, so you could get the kit for 50$.
Unless they changed their instructions, they never mention off contact printing. So, tape a couple pieces of cardboard around the frame
If you're exposing for the right amount of time and still getting scorch or burn marks, try pointing a small fan at the screen while exposing to keep it cool. Make sure the positive is held down by glass though - you don't want it blowing away or moving at all.
Thanks i have tried a different method i moved the screen away further. It did work but i have to get new silk because it is damage. I tried to use my moms curtains it kind of worked but it had little photo emulsion. I'm trying new methods till i get it right.
