Im trying to get some advice on a tshirt order that is about to go through with my company. I have printed around a 1000 at a time but this order is for 50,000. I know overseas is cheaper and would probably be the route to take bc there may be a potential for more to be ordered of this one design in the future. This would be for a dif clothing store that sells clothing at wal-mart where shirt run typically $10 a piece. Im wanting to know where i could get these produced and if anyone has a contact also what would the typical costs be per shirt. Thanks!
Wow that's a nice order. I would say the first thing I would be concerned with is a deposit to cover my up front cost. I would think you would need to contact some of the big shops with several auto's running. If you don't know any, I suggest calling a few equipment company's and ask them for the number of the bigger clients. This should be a easy thing to do, the company's that sell them the equipment want to refer their clients. I would also consider subbing to several smaller shops. I would compare pricing atleast. ..... JB
not trying to be a wet blanket here but......the very FIRST thing i would do is vet that order very, very carefully. do you know the source? is it a company you've dealt with or approached? if it was an unsolicited e-mail offer, or if it's coming from somebody with a 'charity' story, look close and proceed with utmost caution!

yes its actually a pop star with their own clothing line. She was wearing the shirts and we are now discussing them picking it up for her clothing line( putting her name on it) . I would def get something in writing. I just was hoping to get some feedback on the costs typically per shirt for this size order so i can tell them something. I know it depends on the costs i would was thinking costs for myself $1 -$3 per shirt completed .
Were a contract printer, find one it your area. What we do is the shirts are supplied to us we print put back in same box's they came in and customer picks up. If its a dark shirt a ballpark is around 40 cents each.
Good luck, John
typically a normal t-shirt that leaves our contract shop will have a final cost of 1.80-2.20 depending on number of impression locations and special packaging the vendor requires. There are to many variables that you have not included. I assume from your previous posts that you are not using a basic t-shirt. Are royalties involved in your final costs?
Congratulations! This is exciting to read. I would only echo the advice to proceed with caution vetting the order. Doing so is only good business and the ordering party should take no offense when they are legit.
I would recommend too that if such a large order is overwhelming at first that you let the buyer know you will need extra time to pull everything together. Don't get into a situation making time line promises you are unable to reasonably keep. They should understand.
If you go overseas you'll have to pay in full prior to shipment - so bear that in mind. With a legit contract, you should have no problem getting a bank to give you a loc for this, though. But be verrry careful - make sure you have a fantastic broker to carry the deal through. You could very well see some brilliant samples, then get 50,000 pieces of trash at the end of it all, with little or no recourse. On the other hand, it's very possible to have complete success by taking the necessary precautions and paying attention to details all along the way. You want to make sure your contract has approval clauses that let you see the process & approve samples samples at the beginning, in the middle, and prior to shipment.
But I think you could get this done here and still keep your costs where they need to be. You need to pick your vendor for your blank, negotiate price with them for that quantity, pick your vendor(s) for the printing, negotiate your prices with them - get lots of quotes to compare - , and so forth.
Have you considered a custom garment mfr like HSP? Might talk with them, too... they'd make the whole process easy.
