Default simple transfer chemical

I saw a woman putting magazine covers "on" thin/used t-shirts on venice beach.
It looked quick and simple, She was using some chemical. She simply used a paint brush to spread the chemical all over the magazine cover, then pressed down, rubbed her hand over it, (no machine or heat involved), lifted up, and let dry. I want to try this with tshirts and paintings. Does anyone have a clue what the chemical is? I have searched everywhere for something like that, and no luck. Please can someone help me on this.
