Hi, has anyone tried to print film positives on a Roland sp300v??? I have FlexiPro and you can print halftones from there...but only to specific printers, I have an Epson 1400 and Flexi does not support it...But I have a Roland and was just curious if anyone has tried this??
I am wondering the same thing. I worked for a shop where the Roland tech told me he had a customer that was printing positive plates with his Versacamm sp300.
That shop went out of business, and now I'm working for the folks who bought all the equipment. We are still setting up the new shop. I am connecting the computers up on Wednesday, so hopefully I can find the contact info for the tech/rep and ask him about this technique.
What are you using the positives for? Burning screens for screen printing? If that is the case I would think that you could it would be finding the right material to use for it. I am interested to see what you guys find out.
If it'll print paper, it'll print film. The question would be in a rip for halftones. We're supposed to be getting a VP540 in next week, I'm going to try it with film.... What about the dryers on the Roland? Won't that effect the films? Didn't think about that.
Good point on the dryers. Who knows. Like I said before, my rep did tell me he had a guy using the 300V for positives. It might not be worth the trouble. I do have an Epson 3000 and Fast RIP. I need to dig into that program and see what I can come up with as far as printing half tones. I've worked with FR in a limited capacity before and found the documentation to be confusing. Maybe it's just me? I ended up with a post script laser jet, so I didn't need to continue my efforts. I've got the computers set up again. It's now a matter of time to get familiar with the software and set-up. Thanks for your input. I'll keep everybody posted. It might be awhile. This is my second job and I can only give so many hours.
I remember reading somewhere about people doing this. I think there's a company in Seattle that makes a film for them. Probably just turn the dryers off/low, right? You might even be able to get away with just a polyester or mylar film, as it doesn't need the coating like inkjet film?
i do some contract printing for a friend's sign shop who has a versacamm. he made me a film for something that was too big for my xante and too detailed to tile right. it worked very well. you have the printer do a double pass. we used some kind of film used for backlit signs, but looks just like matte laser film to me.
halftones would be tough on a printer like that with it's native RIP, but i'd bet there is one for it for screen making.

So have you tied using your Versacamm to Print your positives, OUT DA BOX?
Let us know
I have actually printed on clear laminate, works pretty good. Have not tried film yet, but I know it will work.
The epson 4800 works well, so I haven't had to fool with doing it on the Roland.
