My Epson 7880 has intermittent problems cutting Oce pro-select film.
Most of my testing has been done with paper, which never had any problem. Now that i'm printing on film, the has given paper miss load errors. The printer has also cut only half the width of the film.
My guess is that the cutter sensor is getting confused by the transparentness of the film. The simple answer would be to stop using the cutter. Another option would be to shop for a different brand of film.
Any suggestions???

One of the reasons you might be having this problem is that the optical sensor is having a hard time picking up the film which is clear. There are three things that I know you can do if you want to stick with this film, but others can chime in as well.
1. There is suppose to be some really thin white tape that you can get that you can add to the bottom of the film on the leading edge that will allow the optical sensor to pick up the size of the film. This can take some time to do each film unless you have the capability to gang up the designs (i.e. imposition).
2. Take it to an Epson repair facility with your film and ask them to adjust the optical sensor. This is going to cost some money.
3. You can try turning the optical sensor off, but this means the printer is not going to check to make sure you have the correct page size loaded. Thus, you could easily print of the media and into the printer. The only benefit of doing this is that it will definitely tell you that the optical sensor is the problem. I personally do not recommend doing this for a long period of time. But if it is not the problem, then you can save some money taking the printer to an Epson repair facility. I don't want to post these instructions on how to do this, so I will send them to you via PM. If anyone else wants them, they can PM me and I will send them as well. But this should be the last measure and only used for a temporary time.
Thus, the simple solution is to try a different film...but I understand that some people become attached to a specific film or they might have a lot of it in stock. Hope you figure this out. Best wishes.
Last night when i went to try your suggestion, the stupid printer complained that i needed to open the door and change the cutter, so i waited till morning to look at it. In the morning, it forgot all about wanting to change cutters and was back to just cutting half the film.
I'm starting to suspect that some of my problems maybe related to my inability to cut the film straight. 24" is just too wide to cut straight with a pair of scissors. Would the film being loaded cut crooked cause a miss read of the width of the film?
I'm not set on the film i'm using. It was just what i happened to purchase. I've only purchased one roll, so i have no commitment to using this brand. If there is another brand you want to recommend, i'd buy a roll of that to try.
thanks

I missed your 2nd post. Glad you were able to get it to work. Just be careful that you are setting your print size correctly or you will be printing off the paper and into the printer. Best wishes.
