I live about as far south of St. Louis as you do north of St. Louis. I am a big fan of Lawson and when I order before 3 today, I get it tomorrow UPS. They aren't crazy on shipping either.
But the point is, I have both aluminum and wood and we prefer the wood and I don't know why. They are a little heavier, but there is just something we like about them over the metal.
What size frame should I get, I will be using small to XXL shirts to silk screen print. I went to the website thats posted here and they have some nice frames. I am going to go with wood and I was going to buy just two for my start up. I also plan on buying a heat press later this year.
20x24" frames work well for us. i'd suggest making the investment in the aluminum frames though. a few bucks more and you'll have a frame that never warps after repeated reclaiming/reusing....
I wouldn't recommend wood. They warp and don't hold up as well. An aluminum frame you can stretch screens on forever, and like previously stated, the price difference is not very big. Screen Printing Supplies has some pretty good deals on aluminum frames if you order one of the sizes and mesh counts that is on sale. 20 x 24 is a good size for the majority of prints you will do, and 110 is a good mesh size to start out with. After you get into screen printing, you'll undoubtedly want to get different mesh sizes for different purposes, but 110 is easy to use and a good starting point.
