I'm thinking of trying full color process color prints. Any suggestions on what kind of frames , ink etc that I should buy. Any differences in equipment I will need. I have a home made press with good micro tuners and I'm pretty good at aligning multiple screens.
I think all I need are 5 higher mesh screens , and the process inks, cyan, magenta, yellow, black, and white for underlay. Any thing else.
YOu need to have nice dense blacks, and good film registration. You can pay someone to output film for you {Most supply stores will have a Film output service} but it leads you to the next issue.....
Exposure. With process, you need to hold a very fine dot in your emulsion to get a nice full colour print.
For frames, I use 305 yellow mesh for my CMYK, and a 230 for the white underbase.
Good luck!
Oh and a tip for output printers, look at Craigslist for a Epson 1520, or 3000. I got three 1520s for free, {They work great} and a 3000 for 65$! Good deals are out there.
Then you need RIP program, I use FastRIP. I got mine used for like 360$ I think? Its around 500$ new. WELL worth it though. Prints beauty films!
It may be a good idea to start with gradients, and halftones before going full into process.
Also you can try a program called Ghostscript. It is free , and supposedly replaces the RIP programs.
I tried but it was WAY to complex to learn, I just spent the five hundred and spent the rest of my afternoon playing baseball! Haha
4 Color process is not for the faint of heart, 90 percent is in the art work the rest is in a good machine, squeegee pressure and a learning curve. You will lose a lot of shirts learning. A Good artist that can output your film is worth a million. Without and automatic machine you'll have trouble with them all looking the same. I hope this helps, John

What is the advantage to these Epsons?
I have a cheap Lexmark which works fine for solid prints, reasonably good detail, with Office Depot films, heh. I havent tried halftones with it, but I assume it wont go that well...
Im on the lookout for cheap Epsons..
