Default Best Printing Process For Dark Ink On Dark Shirts

I recently began commissioning designs for an MMA based lifestyle apparel company. I have quite a few designs at this point and have already chosen the shirts I'll be printing on, the challenge I believe we'll run into is the printing. We have decided to use strictly black, white, and gray ink on black, white and gray vintage look t shirts purchased from Alternative Apparel. The Since the designs are going to be done in that style, what is the best method of printing the dark color inks on the dark color shirts so that they are visible? Is the discharge printing process the best route to go with this in mind? Is it even possible? Also I had wanted to know, since we want the apparel to look vintage, is it better to use standard t shirts, have them printed and then do a vintage wash on them or purchase the t shirts pre-washed and then print? and wont this look funny if the shirt looks old and the print is new?

I would get the shirts processed with whatever vintage wash you want before they are printed. The way to make the print look vintage is in the art design. You can distress it in various ways. Do a search on the forum for distressed or vintage look. Also have your printer use inks that will help it look vintage. Thin the inks out, use a special effect ink like Rutlands shatter base or vintage base. I also like discharge I think grey discharge on black shirts looks really good and I love the soft feel. We did some black american apperal shirts with grey discharge and black waterbase recently and they turned out great. I'd love to see some of your designs sometime we have a bunch of MMA fans at my shop. Good Luck.
