Newbie Questions Hi. I'm new and just got myself a Speedball screen printing kit and I've got a few questions before I get started.
I searched but didn't find exactly what I was looking for, so here goes.
First, for using photo emulsion, I'm having some difficulty determining what kind of light to buy to expose the emulsion. From the threads I found by searching it sounds like UV light is what does the actual exposure but I don't know exactly how to tell how much UV a light outputs. Are black lights high in UV? If so, what wattage would I need to acheive a decent exposure time (as in 10-15 minutes or less - I'd prefer not to have to wait hours). Basically I'd like a recommendation for the type and wattage of light I should look for.
Second, I've read that you have to heat dry the ink for it to become permanent. How is this typically done by you DIY'ers? I don't have fancy-pro equipment, just the kit and household stuff. Also, related to this, if I were printing an image with multiple different screens (like, 3 colors - one per screen - or something) would I have to dry the ink before applying the next color over top? Or would I just print all of my screens onto my surface then dry them all at once when finished?
I think those are my main questions so far.
Thanks! |
