I use the QTX emulsion at $95 a gallon, the QX emulsion is about 1/2 price. Reading the info on the containers is about the same. What is the difference? I like the cheaper price, but I don't want to give up quality.
Thanks

We just bought a quart of qx to try out. It does take us twice as long to expose and it doesn't seem to expose quite as sharp of detail as the qtx does.
However, It's easier to register a screen with the qx because you can see through the emulsion better than the qtx.
That said, we're probably going to switch back to qtx when we run out of the qx.
Wow! $95 that's a lot. I use imagemate DZ 307 diazo photoemulsion and get it for $43.19 a gallon. It works great. We get way better detail in our exposures since we switched from murakami photoblue. I'm not sure how it compares to QX or QTX though, it's been years since we used those.
I use QTX. Exposes FAST!!!. I can really expose in 10 sec, but I go to 20 sec, just to make sure.
I might go back down to 10 sec, because I think i'm loosing some very small halftone dots, ie they wont wash out completely. 10 sec on a home made 500 watt unit is FAST. QTX is expensive, but it's worth it.
I am looking to try a presensatized emulsion. Are they all that expensive and is the QTX the best, easy to use? What is the shelf life? I would love to drop my burn times to seconds versus minutes.

I have a ghetto-rigged 500W homemade unit as well...10 secs???
Can you describe your unit more, I have been exposing for 5 minutes, and havent had any problems, but if I can cut it down to 10 secs...
it's a 500w metal-halide lamp. I have it 16-20 inches from the glass. I use a shop vac for vacuum pressure. I also have a natural rubber blanket for hold down.
I burned some screens today at 10sec.... didn't work- went back up to 20sec.
Worked perfect.
