I just came across some equipment (locally), but need help estimating its value. The guy told me that he just wants to sell is asap and will consider ANY offer (it actually belongs to someone else, so he doesn't know anything about it).
Below are his items. I already have a flash unit and was originally only looking to buy a washout booth, but it sounds like it might be a good deal (even for later down the road). I have not seen any of this equipment yet, but will be meeting him in three hours...
I was told that the washout booth is very large and made of steel, not plastic. I believe he said that he would take $2000, but really doesn't care as long as he can get it out of his shop (not sure what that means, lol)...
-Vastek 4 color press
-GDS Flash unit
-Texair 30 Dryer
-NuArk Mega Max Exposure unit
-Rinse out sink
I know this is a difficult question to answer, but I have little experience with equipment this size. I am a beginner and have a very primitive setup in my basement, that started as a hobby. I doubt the dryer would fit in my space, perhaps in our garage.
My other question is: does anyone know whether this conveyor dryer would cure water-based inks?
Again, sorry for the last-minute questions... ANY advise would be greatly appreciated, as I am completely clueless at this point! I just got laid off, so I may only be able to get one or two items anyway. Thanks a ton! Looking forward to hearing from you!!!
Well.. if he REALLY wants to get rid of it.. $2,000 isnt his 'lowest price'. The worst thing you can do in times of negotiating.. is letting the buyer know (in one way or another.. even inadvertantly) that you will go lower than asking price.. Shoot him an offer at $1600.. and if he says no.. try $1800.. but try $1600 first.. you might get it
Thanks Wes, that really helps! Do you by chance know about the conveyor dryer? I plan on using water-based inks only... Thanks again, I appreciate your advise! Have a great day.

As far as the Texair goes, a dryer is a dryer (though this one might not be the right one for you, especially if you're doing low-volume work). Keep in mind that it's probably 220V, which might be a big problem if you're working out of your home.
The biggest question here is how old this stuff is, what condition it's in, and how much it'll cost you to take it out of his shop and get it into your home.
Transportation could cost you a pretty penny and if he NEEDS to make room in his shop, I'd come in with a pretty lowball figure.
Good luck!

What's the original price of the equipment, how old is it, how beat up is it, how abondoned is it, and where did the $1600 come from - is that based on figures and values, or just lower than the $2,000, just curious that's all.
Does it work and does it require and reconditioning to be useable? Are there any on Ebay or Craiglist, or digitsmith.com to get an idea of comparables, as close as can be assessed anyway.
Just make sure you buy something that works and is of value, and don't overpay for older equipment. If the $1600, or even the $2000, is a fair price, then anything lower is gravy, and money that stays in your pocket rather than his.... good luck to you.
Also, keep in mind that if using water based inks, a dryer w/ forced air would be best. The forced air helps to evorporate the mositure out of the ink much faster as it goes thru the dryer.
Thanks a million guys! You certainly made me realize that there is a lot to consider... I was able to see the equipment today, and there's no way I will be able to fit this monster dryer in my basement! Perhaps in the garage, but since it's not heated, it would not be a good place to work in the winter months...
There are some other people interested in the equipment as a package, but I told the seller that we would take the press, if he's willing to part it. It's in great shape and really, really nice (unlike my tabletop one station)!
Also, I finally got my washout booth (so happy)! It's big with a light in the back. It has some rusty spots on the bottom, but I got it for $150, which I thought was a great deal!
Thanks again, I really appreciate the expertise advise. Have a wonderful evening - Karolina
