Default Help. controlling halftone dot size with screenRip pro

I recently bought ScreenRip Pro, and it works great for achieving dense blacks on my positives.

I am having trouble assigning the halftone dot size.

I have tried assigning the "frequency" in coreldraw, and selecting a "document defined halftone" in the RIP settings,

and I have tried leaving the "print separations" tab unchecked in corel, and assigning a dot size in the RIP,

to no avail.

When i use ghostscript, i get a sweet, blown out looking image at 25 lpi, and a nice crisp image at 65.

why do i need to keep using ghostscript to assign my halftone sizes?
