I have been preparing and reclaiming some screens that I have acquired and having mixed success. Would welcome some advice.
One brand new screen, 31" x 24" inch has 1 tiny hole in it. Smallest of cuts, say a 1mm, but visible. I assume I have to 'print around it' as it can't be "fixed". But, how do I stop it getting worse?
One screen reclaimed fine, emulsion and ink haze cleared. It has though half inch slit in the mesh, at the frame edge. Do I just tape over it? What is the best tape to use for it to stay put?
One screen has some streaks and blobs of emulsion on it that will not clear - I have tried emulsion stripper 3 or 4 times. Any 'last chance' ideas for cleaning? Or is it time to remesh?
Another screen, I can't get the ink haze to clear. Any suggestions? Can I just ignore it?
Im not by any means an expert, but I would definetely tape over the slit at the frame edge, although it will probably continue to rip bigger. Also, you could have uneven tension across the screen at the rip.
As far as dehazing and getting old emulsion off, I used an off the shelf product called CitriStrip last night to dehaze a screen that I screwed up pretty bad, it worked awesome. You can find it in the paint stripper aisle. Same active ingredient as the "environmentally friendly" screen dehazers.
Not an expert either but I always use super glue over the small tear and it stops it in its tracks. It is also resilient to all the chemicals.
De-haze....I still have that problem but will try the citri-strip as suggested earlier.
I would put some duct tape over the rip. For the hole we cut a small circle of scrap mesh and super glue it over the hole. For haze I use Chemical Consultants inc. They make a good spray on haze remover.

Thanks midwaste. Could you list the main/key ingredients for CitriStrip for me please? I am in the UK and don't recognise the product name, but there will probably be something similar available.

Just go to any hardware store or tool shop and look for a "safe" paint stripper that contains N-Methyl 2-Pyrrolidone. They are usually the citrus based ones.
