Let me begin by saying that I'm frustrated as all HECK. I've got 160 1 color (black) on white shirts to be printed by tomorrow, and they're just turning out like SH*T.
I'm relatively new to screen printing and have done most of my work with light ink on dark shirts. I'm fairly comfortable and confident in my ability to clear screens using light-colored, thicker ink...however, this black ink I'm using on this order seems too runny to allow the screen to clear consistently. Unfortunately, I'm using a 230 mesh...which certainly doesn't help the issue. I'm consistently seeing shirts with semi-faded looking prints. NOT FUN!
Re: HELP can't clear the screen with black on white
Jeff's got it. We use international coatings 700 and with the black
It will take print/flash /print if not more. Though the screen count
could also be the issue. But this should greatly improve the quality!
Re: HELP can't clear the screen with black on white
125 count is my norm unless i have great fine detail then i use 165 never do i use anything higher black ink is generally runny in nature but i am not sure what you are talking about when it comes to clearing out the screen?
Re: HELP can't clear the screen with black on white
I know this is past your deadline, but in the future, try a 70-durometer squeegee and try to keep the blade angle as close to 40-degrees as your muscles will allow. Do two squeegee passes, but DO NOT FLASH IT. Many people suggest flashing before fixing a screen-clearing problem. Once you flash something, you are stuck with the rough texture and pockmarks you had on the first print, and you are just piling more ink on top of it. Getting soft black ink through a 230 is easy as long as you use the right squeegee, the right angle, and enough pressure. Make sure your screen is scum-free. If you see a sheen of residue or an area where ink doesn't pass through, dry-wipe it then scrub it open lightly with spit or water.
Re: HELP can't clear the screen with black on white
If you need a thicker black try Unions mixo black. It's the black for their pms matching system but we use it by itself for our everyday black. It is pretty thick. Not hard to print just thicker. It also won't fibrilate much either.
