I'm using the C120 which is said to be the C88's replacement. The only problem i'm having apart from the size limitation is that i must tape a regular sheet of inkjet paper to the back of it for the printer to read it as valid. Otherwise, it just spits it out.
For positives, i'm using RFilm waterproof inkjet film from silkscreeningsupplies.com with the regular C120 inks and I've been able to get by. So, i don't think you'll have a problem until you're ready to print halftones which would require RIP software.
so you're printing without a rip, and the quality is acceptable? I printed from an r1800 at my old shop, but we had to use a rip to get the films dark enough, and still had to hit them with a sharpie from time to time.
I use both a c88+ and a 1400 without a rip for simple spot colors and it works just fine. Use the waterproof film mentioned above and you'll be just fine.
Good luck!!

I plan on trying that film, what is the benefit you've experienced over the cheap stuff at say. . . Wal-mart or the Office supply store?
C88 & 1400 with R-film he as well. Use the photo settings / glossy photo media.
Difference is a solid opaque image vs having to print twice and stacking / taping them together to be dark enough. Actually, the 8.5"x11" R-film is only like $.50 per sheet and the 11"x17" R-film is around $1.00 each which is not much different...if not cheaper..then you'll find at Walmart / Office Depot.

Ok, being that I consider myself to be a rational, thinking human being, I couldn't just take your word for it. I had to find out for myself. I went to Staples and bought an expnsive pack of 3m transparencies for inkjet printers (@ $35 for 25 sheets), brought it home and tried a print.
Guess what - it came out with cracks and lines all in it - definately not ready for the exposure unit!
I called the guys at SilkScreeningSupplies.com and requested a sample of the Ryonet R-film, and they said "Sure!, we'll get that right to you"
I just got the package in the mail, 2 sheets of 4mil and 2 of 5mil. I printed one of the 4 mil sheets with the same file as before
Guess what - It came out FANTASTIC - I mean i'm really impressed, I've got Imagesetter quality film with from a $50 C120 I found on craigslist nib, and no rip - I'm ready to go!!
ps, i still have to tape a sheet of paper to the back of the transparency to get it to print, but for $50 bucks I can deal
I no longer use the C120 (upgraded to the R1900), but i find that when i set the paper type to "double sided matte paper", it prints without a sheet of paper taped to the back like i usually did. Can't remember if the C120 offers that as a paper option. It's been a while since i've used it to do anything. If it offers that paper option, try it and it may resolve that issue.

Thanks guys - u really know your stuff!
Great to hear Dan!
Glad it worked out for you.
I think the transparancies at the local Staples / Walmart / etc. are more for overhead projectors. The R-Film has a coating that holds the inks better.
