Default How dark does the room need to be?

Ok guys well I am now in a position where I will be burning my first ever screen.
As I am unsure of exposure time with my equipment I am going to do a step test to find correct exposure time. I have also printed two transparancies to make sure that my image is dark enough, I have been double clever and printed numbers on my transparancies, these numbers will correspond to the number of minutes each section is being exposed
Now hopefully when I wash the screen out I will have my answer looking at me!
Now I know this emulsion is light sensitive but how dark does the room which I am working need to be? Is sunlight my main enemy (not a problem as we don't get much in the U.K) or is a flourescent light being on, on the ceiling going to give me trouble also?
I have images of me fumbling around in the dark with a coating trough full of emulsion

Your advice please.

Phil

Get yourself a couple of those yellow bug lights from a local store; they don't affect your emulsion. I bought some for about $.65 each so they're really cheap. That's what i've been using and i get no surprises when working in my dark room. Just to be on the safe side, i don't take my coated screens too close to it, though. Also, i don't keep it on when the screens are drying.

Your dark room needs to be 100% UV free, but that doesn't mean it can't have a little light that doesn't emit UV rays that will affect your emulsion.

For the past year I've had my shop set up outside my house, but it has no running water so I do all of my emulsion coating in my bathroom WITH a regular light bulb on, I then bring the screen to a different room that's completely dark with a dehumidifier. After about a half hour I take the screen (I don't bother to cover it) and run it outside through the light of the sun and set up my exposure. I've been doing this for a year and I never have a problem, well maybe once in a great while.
