Hey, We are a medium size shop with several employees. I was wondering what pay everyone else pays. We are in the "deep south".Our new people start at $6.75/hr 40hr week.Someone with 6-8 years makes $9ish. Our most senior 20+ years makes $15ish.How much and how do y'all pay (piece, salery, day, 1099, ect) thanks .....jeff
sounds like a lot of money to me. we pay by age. 10-14 year olds get $1.00 per hour plus an extra dime a hour for every year of age past 10(example a 13 year old makes $1.30). after 14 years old they get a extra dime for every year they have been with me. if you start with me at 10 years old by the time you're 20 you make $2.00. i don't keep employees past 25 because by then they make so much i could hire two 12 year olds. you need to rethink how you throw money at your employees or you will ruin our industry. stan
We start employees at about $8-9. Most experienced people earn about $15-16 per hour. We haven't had many employees go too far above 8 years, so can't really compare the 20-25 year mark.
You can get a job at Wal-Mart for around $8 an hour starting, so we figure for grunt work, we need to compete with that.
We also offer paid holidays plus a week paid vacation per year, plus health benefits.

Well, I'm from the deep south too. Those pay rates and benefits would leave you looking for part timers and high schoolers around here. Honda built a transmission plant nearby. The starting pay is currently 11.75. Other businesses are having to play catchup to keep their experienced employees.
Wow. The minimum wage here is more than that. $15 after 20 years? I can't believe he's been there that long!
Sounds like the deep south has some economic issues. And I'm in Iowa!
It's probably relative to where you're from and what you're used to. Maybe everyone makes $15/hour after 20 years. Reminds me of a story a friend of mone told me. Not really a story but...
We would go up to the U.P. that's the Upper Peninsula in Michigan, to go snowmobiling, hunting, skiing, etc. We would go into the bar and order a draft beer. They're 50 cents each. You start to say something like. Wow, in Chicago we pay such and such, and they just about shoot you. The people that have cabins up there don't want the owners to know that people actually sell liquor for a lot more elsewhere. I ordered a round of drinks which included mixed drinks and shots and it was under $10. Pretty funny. Anyway kind of relates. If these people moved up North they would make more money, however, cost of living would be much higher.
It depends on your location, and the local market. In the case of the Honda plant, look at what it's done for local employers, what a nightmare to their bottom line. In our area, that pay is fine. We are in the north.
One way you can compare your area's payscale is to go onto real estate websites. I used Weichert.com recently. I don't know if they are nationwide, but realestate.com should be offering the same information. I just preferred the way Weichert.com presented it.
I put in our zip, found a house and clicked "neighborhood info". I was able to see the pay scale of residents in our zip code. It went up in increments of $10K, starting with $0-$10000. It put on the scale the number of households in this range. You can make a judgement call from there as to where your industry fits into the scale.
I suppose you can also take a cue if you are attracting the quality of employee you are looking for with those pay rates.
Hey ,thanks to the people who gave an honest answer ....where we are the medium family of 4 with 2 working parents makes less than 40k/yr...and in our area the local screenprinters & embroidery shops pay less than us ....top pay for highly experanced printer is 9/hr 2 weeks vacation...bank tellers start at 7.50ish...walmart doesnt pay minuim wage but not far from it, part time. You can buy a 3 bedroom stick built house for 85-100k on the low side so there you have it...jeff
I've heard a few folks comment that where they live, you can make it fine on wages similar to those. It really does depend on your local ecomony. Sounds like your pay scale is very respectable. Best wishes
mm $15/hour after 20 years.. can't really tell if it's good enough or not, it really depends on the local minimum wage and also.. not to forget.. the employee's skill and loyalty. If he/she has a great skill, I think he/she deserves more.. IMHO
