Default Epson R1800 - what type of film should I buy and where?

So I purchased an Epson R1800 and now I am clueless as to what type of film I should buy and where I can get it. If you could give me a recommendation that would be great. I am planning on using the ink that came with it and I do not have RIP software as of yet. Not sure if I need it at the moment. Will I be able to print transparencies with that set up?

I have a R1800.
You need clear vellum paper for inkjet that you can easily find on google. Just type
screen printing supply +vellum
and you will find thousand of store.

I don't have a RIP, and even use cheap third party ink. I don't have any problem, my screen came out perfectly , even tiny details (0,4" !).

Good luck

Hi guys,

I'm from London as well.
I'm also looking to find the best media to print my positive on.
I have an Epson R1800 with a (cheap) Ciss bought on eBay, so i hope the ink is good enough to produce good film.
I'm finding hard to get the right setting on my printer to print super black...
I've tried different options such as Matte, Transparencies, Glossy paper etc... but it still doens't super black as i hope it would on my tracing paper. Yes i use tracing paper at the moment.
I'm also looking for perhaps a better paper than tracing paper but still a pain to find in the uk.
Anyone got the 'real' name for these type of paper.
Any brand you would recommend? Any prices?

Thanks a lot, all help will be welcome!!!

Remi

I have used AGFA Copyjet on the Epson R1800. Turned out really black. Set it to Premium Glossy and Photo.

You don't want to make transparencies, but instead, UV opaque positives.

To make screen printing positives with an inkjet printer, the best results come from clear polyester film with an absorbent coating for water based ink. Epson dye inks used in the Stylus Photo 1400 printer are 100% liquid and can be absorbed by a swellable coating like the gelatin used on indirect stencil films.

The Epson 1800 uses pigment inks that require a micro porous coating with 'microscopic cavities' that can absorb the resin coated pigment particles with natural capillary action.

Transparent paper with a 'vellum' (textured) finish will not reproduce images as well as on inkjet film. Pigment will sit on the surface of the paper like poppy seeds.

Every screen printing distributor on the face of the earth should be able to suggest a local supplier if they don't have it. If you don't tell us where you live, it's foolish for us to suggest a distributor.

Epson photo inks are designed to use 4/6/8 transparent inks to reproduce full color, camera captures. We hot rod these photo printers with a software RIP to print only black from one head, emulate Postscript AND increase UV opacity.

You can get by without a rip but I prefer to use one. You have more capabilities to produce some pretty high quality work.

Try Ulano's waterproof film or OneFilm from Davis International. We have been using the onefilm for about a year now and it is the cheapest, high quality film we have found, and we tried a lot. There are some cheaper out there probably but I know the onefilm works great.
