Re: Epson R1800 - what type of film should I buy and where? You don't want to make transparencies, but instead, UV opaque positives.
To make screen printing positives with an inkjet printer, the best results come from clear polyester film with an absorbent coating for water based ink. Epson dye inks used in the Stylus Photo 1400 printer are 100% liquid and can be absorbed by a swellable coating like the gelatin used on indirect stencil films.
The Epson 1800 uses pigment inks that require a micro porous coating with 'microscopic cavities' that can absorb the resin coated pigment particles with natural capillary action.
Transparent paper with a 'vellum' (textured) finish will not reproduce images as well as on inkjet film. Pigment will sit on the surface of the paper like poppy seeds.
Every screen printing distributor on the face of the earth should be able to suggest a local supplier if they don't have it. If you don't tell us where you live, it's foolish for us to suggest a distributor.
Epson photo inks are designed to use 4/6/8 transparent inks to reproduce full color, camera captures. We hot rod these photo printers with a software RIP to print only black from one head, emulate Postscript AND increase UV opacity.
