Re: Photograhic screen failed If the image didn't wash out, you overexposed it. Regarding the halogen floodlamp, take the glass off, it has UV inhibitors in it, making exposures longer. Halogen lamps aren't the best because of the length of time it takes to expose, plus the heat they throw off. Are you using a scoop coater to put the emulsion on your mesh? Do a single coat shirt side, a single coat squeegie side, then dry shirt side down. You'll have to do test exposures to determine the correct time, and if you want to save money, make a small film image with a black square and some type, and only coat enough of the screen for that small piece of art. That'll save you some emulsion while your figure things out. Since your first screen didn't wash out, expose your next screen for half the time you did the first and see what happens. If it still doesn't wash out, halve the time again. If it all washes out, go up halfway between your first time and the second. Generally speaking in photographic processes, you either cut times by half or double them to start to narrow down exposure times. You also have to make sure your screens are coated and dried exactly the same each time, and with the same emulsion. Any variables you introduce can throw things off, making it harder to determine the correct procedure you're trying to establish. |
