It's amazing how hard it is to find suppliers. I had one company come down here from the Carolinas and try and sell me their products. I really liked some of their stuff, so I ordered samples. They shipped it in here UPS COD, cashier's check/money order only. Needless to say, we refused it. It's pretty sad to drive down here, spend over an hour selling us on your products, but you don't even trust us enough to write a company check.

I'll just stick with my local guys.
That's an unfair statement to make. Technically you are a new customer to them, so they might not necessarily allow you to have terms on your first order. It wouldn't be the first time I've seen that. It's a little unprofessional to not TELL you that upfront, but I understand it from a business point.
I've dealt with plenty of companies who make you pay the first 2 or 3 orders on credit card/cod before they offer you terms, or have you fill out credit references before you get terms.
