Start with general purpose plastisol inks designed for wet-on-wet printing on light color shirts where the ink should stain the shirt. Every distributor can help you choose the right ink for the shirt material. Dark garments are much harder and you will need learn the different inks for different shirt blends and design complications.
Get color charts from each vendor and try to select colors that are already mixed.
