I don't think you necessarily need what most people call a hybrid printer (i.e. dye sub ink in 4-channels and 4-channels of ink for film positives / heat transfers). If all you want is to print film and transfers, you might want to look at a film RIP that does not alter your ink configuration. This way you can still use the standard Epson driver to print transfers with. The main benefit you would get from running a RIP for transfers is better color control. But it is not a requirement.
Over the next couple of months, you will see hybrids that incorporate film positive printing for smaller desktop printers like the R1800 (sublimation, heat transfers & film) and 1400 (sublimation or transfers with film - since this is a 6-color printer).
