Default Epson 2400 for film output and heat transfer

Is anyone using the Epson 2400 as a hybird system for film output and printing heat transfers?

I would like to buy one machine that will produce high quality films and heat transfers and the 2400 looks like a good compromise b/t quality and price but the vendors I talk to haven't been able to confirm this setup will actually work.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me or make recommendations?

Thank you,

Kyle,

I don't think you necessarily need what most people call a hybrid printer (i.e. dye sub ink in 4-channels and 4-channels of ink for film positives / heat transfers). If all you want is to print film and transfers, you might want to look at a film RIP that does not alter your ink configuration. This way you can still use the standard Epson driver to print transfers with. The main benefit you would get from running a RIP for transfers is better color control. But it is not a requirement.

Over the next couple of months, you will see hybrids that incorporate film positive printing for smaller desktop printers like the R1800 (sublimation, heat transfers & film) and 1400 (sublimation or transfers with film - since this is a 6-color printer).

Hope this info helps.

Mark
