I hope I can get an answer to 2 separate queries.
1.) I have seen the print work from a company call "The Mountain" and I think it is just great.
How do they do it?????
2.) I have also seen WWF t shirts (usually dark colours) with a white image on the back and the same image in full colour on the front. There is NO hand and I wonder what process they use to get this photo realistic image on dark with no hand????
This may be done using a discharge ink which removes the color from the shirt first (instead of printing a flash coat of white) then they print the image on top of the area that was discharged with water-based inks at etremely high pressure (using an automatic machine with high mesh count screens).
*Discharging is a chemical reaction that destroys the ability of selected dyes to reflect color. This reaction takes place at temperatures above 180 degrees Fahrenheit while water is present.

Thanks for that. I have not done discharge yet but will one day.
Now how does The Mountain print their great shirts?

I'm not sure what "The Mountain" is... do you have an image of one of their shirts I can take a look at?
*Note: Be sure to be in a very very well ventilated workspace pushing air out of the work area when discharging. It's known to give off a bad odor and i've had the taste in my mouth many times which is extremely untasteful!
Hey Cody, By the look of some of those tee's..it seems that they are mainly 4-6 color process prints using halftone designs, a high mesh count, some flashing, and applying hard pressure (might be using an automatic press).
It could be but these prints have NO hand at all. So they must be water based. What confuses me is that they can do them on darks and also can do a real fade out. I think they may use discharge but still not sure. You are right about the half-tone print however.
