Default Newbie Question, Dark Tees

Hey guys, bear with me, I am NOT a screenprinter, yet, but I am learning. If I understand correctly, 4-color process prints are transparent, so to be printed on darks, they need a white underbase, right?

Then do one color, or solid color, prints need an undercoat of white to appear on darks, or are they printed solid, so that the garment does not bleed through? It looks to me like the only time a white coat is used firsthand is on process colors, am I right or waaaaayyyy off??

Thanks guys, just curious.

Whenever you print a light color ink on a dark color shirt you will need to flash it. You can either put a white base, flash it, then put your color, or for example if you are printing yellow on black, print your yellow, flash it then put a second coat of yellow again. In the 2nd example, you would only need one screen, where as if you put a white underbase, you will need 2 screens. 1 for flash, and one for the yellow. good luck

That makes alot of sense, thanks guys! I have always worked with plastisol transfers and inkjet, but my experience in screenprinting has been limited to taking them out of a box and selling them. I think I will learn alot here, you guys know your stuff. Thanks again.
