Default What exactly is plastisol?

Hi, I'm not exactly sure what plastisol is. I've been reading forums and trying to figure out what it is. Can someone please explain to me, like I'm a dummy, what plastisol is? Also what is the difference between screen printing and plastisol other than screen printing is messier?

Chris

Plastisol is the ink used to screen print onto textiles. It can be applied by normal screen printing, or with plastisol TRANSFERS, which is a heat transfer made with plastisol ink, and then applied to a garment using a heat press.

Hope this helps!

From what I've read, plastisol is the way to go but I'm confused. How does this compare to regular heat transfers?

your help would be greatly appreciated.

plastisol is screen printing that is done on a transfer sheet in mirror image so you can press to the garment. It is basically the same a screen printing.

regular transfers are made with either inkjets or lasers on special paper and are pressed on the garment..will feel different and will not last as long or wear as well as plastisol

with regular transfers you can do full color imaging..pretty hard to do with plastisol or screen printing since full color photos will have blending and shading...not available in regular plastisol

The link posted above might help you on transfers, if you read through some threads there.

A lot of wrong answers here.

What exactly is plastisol? It's polyvinyl chloride (PVC) capsules in a suspension. Liquid plastic essentially. It's used in a variety of industrial applications (dip coating for example) and, most relevantly here, as an ink in screenprinting.
