Ok lets be honest, replacing your ink cartridges, with the cheap generic brand cartridges seems like a good idea, almost too good to be true.......
would you recommend
a) FastINK or similar "Screenprint Specific" inks?
b} Epson OEM Cartridges?
c} Cheap Generic cartridges?
Im basically just wondering if Dye based cartridges like those for the 1520, or 3000 are as crucial as the inks for the R1800/newer printer models.
Ive got two 1520's and Ive got generic in one, and epson in the other, havent printed out Transperencies yet, but the photos looks pretty damn identical........
Ordered FastRIP today, so I want to get some replacement cartridges, so im not stopped for production once I start laying down a thick coat of pricey ink!
Re: Cheap Dye Based Epson Ink for Film output.....
Andrew,
The key when printing film positives is that you have the correct density curve to get maximum results. A density curve will be different if you change the ink or the film media. FastRip has some built in settings that are designed to be used with FastPositive media. So, you will probably have to play with the settings in order to get the best results.
The screen printing specific inks usually have a UV inhibitor in them that help prevent the light from the exposure unit from getting through the ink. This will help dramatically with getting better film positives. But, inks without UV inhibitors have also been used and good results have been achieved.
Re: Cheap Dye Based Epson Ink for Film output.....
It really depends on the properties of the cheap ink and how much flexibility that you have with FastRIP. You can always try it first and if it does not work, you can go get the other ink. Basically, you are going to have to do some trial / error tasks until you really know the true answer.
