Default First Print/Screen

So whats up guys.

I decided to do my first print, I got a screen emulsioned and let it dry and after burning my screen with the image i wanted using 2, 250 halogen lights for about 15 minutes I decided to wash it out. Now when i went to wash it out, the image came out kinda easily, but some tidbits of emulsion that were never exposed would come out as well. Now I'm pretty sure I did not expose it long enough, but can i get some confirmation. And also I was thinking about exposing a half-hour to an hour, instead of 15 mins.

But even when i did have some really big 'pinholes' I just taped em up, cause i was eager to print. I was using speedball waterbased ink, and I'm sure it was a mix between the crumby screen i burned and my newbness, but it was pretty bad.hahaha

I want to fix and redo the screen i made, so is there anyway to take the emulsion off with house hold materials or something i can order?

thanks alot guys and gals
-brendan

Hey Brendan,

Exposure time really depends on the emulsion you use, and even then; it's trial and error to find out the best time to expose. I'd say add 3 more minutes and see how much that helps. You really need to find that happy medium of exposed enough without being under/over. You can search for an emulsion calculator and get an exact measurement. Also, make sure that you dry your screens for enough time, it tends to take a bit of time.

You can't wash off the emulsion with any household chemicals the correct way. Some people use bleach, but I wouldn't recommend it. You need to grab some emulsion remover/reclaimer and it'll come right off. Make sure you don't leave the reclaimer on there too long or it'll lock the emulsion in for good.

Hope some of that helped

Drew
