Default R1800 Question (have searched)

I've been searching through the threads, and still haven't got an exact answer.

I want to know what i NEED to print out my positivies. I just got an r1800.

Do I absolutely NEED a rip? Can I use the normal dye inks to print films? What films will work best?

All EPSON printers need a Postscript translator, to print halftones and beautiful curves from graphics programs.

You also need to increase ink deposit so you can stop UV energy from reaching you sensitive stencil. The stock EPSON driver, printing 100% black can only achieve 1.6 UV density.

The positives I printed this afternoon with PowerRIP ScreenPrint on my R1800 measured 2.5 UV dMAX at 720 dpi and 3.45 UV dMAX at 1440 dpi at 70 line per inch.

Download the demo version and try the full program for free. There will be a watermark that says PowerRIP until you buy a serial number.

You bought a pigment inkjet printer. You need to use Pigment Inkjet Film, which I don't like to call Waterproof.

I don't Like the Term Waterproof

Pigment ink needs to have a nano-porous surface so the pigment particles wrapped in a clear shell can get inside the coated surface.

Dye ink is 100% liquid and the original coating used to absorb that ink is smooth and clear as glass. If you spilled any water on the swellable coating of DYE ink jet film, the ink ran like mascara in the rain. Compared to DYE inks, pigment inks in porous film could resist bleeding when wet.

Inkjet films can't be waterproof - because the inks are water based. It should have been called bleed resistant film, not waterproof - but nobody knew how the inkjet world would grow up.

I will never win this debate, the term is too popular now.

Pigment Inkjet Film costs twice as much as DYE inkjet film.
