We'll I was looking around on Craigslist for someone to help me build a screen printing website with some basic info.
I was emailing 1 guy back and forth and he sent me this below about building a quick website for me for about 90 bucks.
My question is...by the sound of the email does it sound like he's tyring to blow smoke? Or does it sound ok?
Basically he's telling me to let him print my larger orders...etc. Which I don't mind doing. I'm not even sure what he means by "set up a pointer to our server"
Quote:
Ken,
Suggestion for you. If you're in screen printing, and I'm in screen
printing, why don't we work together?
You can setup a pointer to our server, and I'll allot you dedicated
space, so you don't have to pay extra for hosting. In return, we build
an alliance wherein you can solicit customers, and we can provide back
end support. I have the facilities to pump out 5,000 pieces per day on
both coasts, as well as a factory in China for bulk, not to mention
graphics artists, et al. Instead of bustin your hump and trying to do
everything, we can work together, and you can sell as many pieces as you
want, and I can drop ship them the world over for you.
I fully understand and appreciate if you want to go your own way, I've
got an independent streak a mile wide myself, but believe you me, a deal
like this is worth considering. I can give you all of the infrastructure
we've built up over the last 10 years, or you can scrape by like we did,
but in the end you'll have wasted ten years to get where we are now. If
I told you what I pay for t-shirts or umbrellas now, versus what we paid
ten years ago, it would blow your mind.
I want out of this biz, and you want in, so I say we just make the swap.
As you build up customers, we both make money, and eventually, you can
take over, and I can go back to what I really love, professional fighting.
Sincerely,

Reason: fixing
It does not sound so good to me either. He is using your inexperience to intimidate you into doing what he wants you to do. If he has such great business and does 5000 garments a day why would he need you? you have to ask these questions because people will try to scam you in every type of business out there. And then why also would he want to not only help you by printing all your orders for you but then he is going to give you his business that is a total contradiction). I would definately stay as far away as possible on that one. You could also ask for his business name and look him up. its amazing what info you can find on the internet now.
Ok, so I wrote him to send me more info and he wrote ack..

Go to www.****.com for one of my suppliers. I get a 30% discount off
of their prices, and I always pay the end line cost (i.e. 100+ pcs) no
matter how many pieces I purchase, plus I charge $0.70 per print (per
color), and $20 per screen setup.
I also get wholesale rates with ******, for T-shirts.Those change pretty
much weekly, but prices generally range from $0.60 to $6.00 depending on
quality, quantity, and color. I charge $35 per screen for t-shirts, and
$0.90 per print.
I also offer full photo process, but that is a per order quote system,
because we charge by the square inch.
We offer embroidery, debossing, and laser engraving as well. I can send
you sample catalogs, with coded prices (the ones you charge your
customer, when you tell them you're giving it to them at cost ;-) ).
Also check out www.***sports.com, but ignore their prices, I import all
their merchandise from China, so I pay a lot less than what they try and
rip customers for. Hell, I pay less than they charge Wal-Mart.
We drop ship anywhere in the world, and charge UPS published rates. For
orders with multiple locations we charge $10 per location drop ship fee.
Our average turn around time is 24 hours from when we receive the final
approval, although for orders over 1000 prints, we need one business day
per 1000 prints.
Debossing we charge $40 setup, and $0.65 per hit.
That should give you a start, and some basic ideas about the products I
offer. I wasn't kidding when I said we have ten years of developed
infrastructure.I'll tell you Ken, this business is all about who you
partner with and what kind of alliances you can make.
If you need anything else, let me know.
Thanks,
I don't really know what to think.

Like I said, print broker. You can do better than the prices he quoted. Hell, if you get orders that big you can do what he does and sub them out yourself. Salesmen are salesmen.
