Default Printed examples needed

Hello all!

I am on the verge of trying my hand at 4 color process now - but have found limited examples online to allow myself a visual 'comparison'. I would like to ask if anyone can post some examples of their work that will show a spot print vs. a comparable design that was done with process?

I dont want to invest money into getting the inks and more higher mesh screens if Im not 100% sure I can get some significant return, or use that style of printing effectively. Not to mention I'm getting the feeling that most people here are not real big fans of process printing anyways (or so I may me misreading). As it stands - Im doing fairly well with the "bread and butter" < 4 color jobs that I can do - but curiousity is getting the best of me.

Any help or advice you can lend would be greatly appreciated!

Your shirt looks great - I do like the depth that the dark black gives. Another question comes to mind now that I see your image;

Do you print/flash/print the CMYK colors (per color) to get bolder definition or brighter colors? And are you using a different black other than process black? I read how some people were using different inks to get that extra edge?

Thanks for the help!

My setup is pretty crude compared to what you are mentioning, however, I have done some tests with the 200+ mesh counts that I have with modest results.

I am fairly proficient with photoshop. My exposure system is a dual 500watt halogen (for a total of 1000watt) mounted directly over my table at almost precisely 22". I use foam covered with black felt under the screen and 1/4" plate glass over the screen. The lights are on a gra-lab timer. I am using Kimodesk 11x17 laser vellum as well. The safety glass is removed from the lights, and small 6" personal fan is also placed strategically to help dissipate heat.

With all that said (sorry for being so detailed - but was hoping it would help)... I have successfully turned out halftones/gradients with ease. Its not the quickest way of burning a screen I know - but for the time being, its working.

If I jump to the 305 or higher mesh to work with process, I assume that I would begin experiencing problems with exposure???

Sorry for jumping from the initial topic -
