i have an order for royal blue shirts and white ink. the customer said they want 50/50 shirts. i had heard before 50/50 shirts can bleed into the white ink. is this true has anyone had a problem it this.
Do you mean that the ink bleeds through the shirt, or that the blue dye will bleed into the ink? I've never had the shirt dye bleed into the ink, but I suppose it could depend on the type of dye process used and the type of ink you use.
What type of ink do you plan to use, and what brand shirts?
I've printed plenty of American Apparel 50/50 shirts with Wilflex and IC plastisol inks with no such problems.
Unless you mean that the ink might bleed through the fabric - that does happen somewhat, but it's never been an issue.
It called dye migration. On all of our 50/50 that print we use a special ink that reduces dye migration. Most ink companies carry an ink for 50/50 shirts. We use Wilflex PolyWhite and have been very happy with it. You can use the poly ink on cotton shirts put you will have some ghosting if you stack the shirt on top of each other after printing. If you want anymore info on dye migration or ghosting just let me know. You can also go to polyone/wilflex site and pull up the tech sheets for all of their inks. I am sure that most ink companies have this too.

I'm about to print 50/50 sweatshirts (red + navy coloured) I'm considering the Wilflex Polywhite - it is really tough to work with compared to other whites (I currently use Ryonet w/reducer)? Do you ever add reducer, or does that go against the goal?
You definately need a low bleed white...I use Union Diamond White & it works well with "bleeding fabrics".
Add a bit of soft hand base or clear extender to make it more printable if necessary.
