Default graphics onto t's

Ok I am new to the t'shirt industry...I need some clarifications
1. what is the difference between screenprinting and transfers?
2. what form do you need to give the graphics to the people who will do the screenprinting?
3. How does a company like Kingsley get the images on- where the shirt looks like it has been dyed in spots and the undyed areas create the words or graphics?
4. Does anyone know any manufacturers in Canada that sells the distressed looking t's?
5. What is the average cost one should pay/ t-shirt- the distressed kind...
6. Does anyone have any connections in Canada?

Thanks so much!

Screen printing is a process where real ink is applied to a t-shirt. By transfer, i assume you mean dye sublimation, which is a process which allows desktop printers to print out a page which can be sublimated onto a shirt. The limit with sublimation is that the magic only happens with synthetic fiber. The second drawback is that it only happens on white or light colored shirts. If you don't like white ****s, you probably want to forget dye sublimation.

Screen printing is generally limited to 1 color or multiple specific spot colors. Very few people produce process color silkscreen printing, which is the primary reason i'm moving in that direction.

A third option is direct to garment printers. The per shirt price is still more expensive, but allows process color on dark shirts or light shirts.

thats not entirely true. you can get silk screened transfers. they silkscreen onto paper first (in reverse) and then you press them on shirts as you need them. i wasted a ton of money getting my shirts done from a screener that put it directly on the shirt. i sell at open public markets like flea markets and you just never know what sizes and colors you will sell so i was always left with aa bunch that didnt sell as well as others. so with plastisol transfer you just let the customer pick the shirt size and color and then you press the design on right away. it only takes about 10 seconds to press! i dont see why way this isnt more popular?

sublimation is just one kind of transfer. You can do transfers with OEM toner in lasers and with regular ink in inkjets...so your choices are
screenprint
plastisol transfer
laser transfer
inkjet transfer
sublimation

each kind need special paper...and in the case of sublimation..special ink
