By transfer, i assume you mean dye sublimation, which is a process which allows desktop printers to print out a page which can be sublimated onto a shirt. The limit with sublimation is that the magic only happens with synthetic fiber. The second drawback is that it only happens on white or light colored shirts. If you don't like white ****s, you probably want to forget dye sublimation.
Screen printing is generally limited to 1 color or multiple specific spot colors. Very few people produce process color silkscreen printing, which is the primary reason i'm moving in that direction.
A third option is direct to garment printers. The per shirt price is still more expensive, but allows process color on dark shirts or light shirts.
