Default How to halftone black with good results

Hi all,
I want to try halftone printing. What's the process in photoshop? I did bitmap but then what should I do for output dots, frequency and angle? I tried it on a 72 dpi image using 72 dpi as the output and a frequency of 300 but it looks lousy. I couldn't do higher than 72 dpi output. Is it better to start with a higher DPI image?
Thanks. Googling didn't result in a good guide anywhere.

You need to get a better understanding of dpi and lpi, ppi, etc.

72 dpi is not a quality resolution for anything other than the web. If that is what you have to work with than be prepared to not get a quality reproduction.

Convert the image to grayscale
in the print dialog (Ctrl+P) click the Screen Tab. in the resulting dialog

uncheck use printer default screen.

Frequency = the side of the dot pattern - 45 to 55 is a good size for manual printing. (remember the larger the number the smaller the dot)

Angle = 25° works great for most spot colors with halftones

Shape = Elliptical - elliptical dots transfer to the screen best.
