What art
do, you have? A sketch on a napkin, a matchbook, a printed t-shirt - no sketch at all?
If you don't have any graphics programs already, Photoshop is perhaps not the program to start with. It is used for photographs, and if you are just starting, you need an illustration vector program like CorelDRAW or perhaps Illustrator.
If you are a Apple user, you are stuck with the Illustrator learning curve. Prowl usscreen.com for Scott Fresener's DVD training videos. They are the only T-shirt Separation training around, and last longer than a live show.
If you are a Windows user, CorelDRAW is what you should get. Illustrator is much harder to learn and doesn't manipulate letters as well as CorelDRAW.
