Need to Register?

Hello, I have a couple of quick questions. I have been reading tutorials online for my primary source of how to screen-print, but I've heard some things I'm not sure about and wanted some follow-up on.

First of all, is it possible to place your design within 1-2" of the frame of the screen? I heard the tension is too high here, and that you won't be able to pull ink through it. However, this doesn't entirely make sense to me, and I don't want to waste the 8 by 12" screen I already bought.

Secondly, should I be mixing my ink with anything? I use Speedball fabric acyrlic ink, both opaque and the other one. I'm not looking for any special effects, but is there something I should be mixing it with just to do a normal, white t-shirt?

Placing your design that near the edge of the frame isn't such a good idea because with the high tension, means the screen doesn't have enough play to dip down. try using a 20x24 screen. You don't need to mix your ink with anything, but I do believe acyrlic dries fast, so they may have an thinner for it (I don't use speedball but the term acrylic).
