I am just starting to mix my own pantone colors and now I need to get a nice scale. Are these just digital kitchen scales or are these specific to screen printing. I have been told to look for a scale that is within a 0.10 of a gram accuracy but I can't find any. Where should I look and is there anything else I should be looking for in a scale? Thanks.
You can squeak by with an old triple beam scale if you can find one on the cheap. That's what was used for years in offset printing as well as screenprinting, and while it not going to be as accurate as a digital scale, or quite as convenient as having a tare feature, they do work well enough if you're careful. I got one for free, and it does 10ths of ounces, and I've gotten consistently good color matches to a Pantone book using Union's Mixopake ink system and their formula mixing software. If you're buying new or can find a nice gently used one, however, I'd definitely get a digital one.
Ok, I have been looking for scales on the internet and now I wanted to see some in the stores. What kind of stores carry digital scales that are appropriate for our use? Home Depot, ACE, Bed Bath and Beyond, Art stores? Thanks.
