Default water-based printing on white shirts, looks bad stretched. solutions?

I've recently done some printing on white shirts that give me concern. The print looks great on the platen, but when I take it off, if it stretches at all, it looks faded, as the white fabric shows through the ink. I think that with plastisol, since it's more of a layer of plastic, the white wouldn't show. I only use water-based ink and use a mesh of usually 196 when printing on white.
Does anyone have any tips? Is there any additive I could use?
Thanks in advance.

Doesn't sound like the ink is penetrating the fabric like it should. You may want to experiment with thinning it out a bit.

Recently I used versatex red and dick blick green.
Would thinning with water work, or should I use a chemical?

edit;- Also, I use a high mesh screen cause I feel like i'm wasting ink if i'm doing color-on-white prints with say a 110 mesh and also to prevent bleeding. But would a 110 lay down more ink so that it would penetrate the fabric more?
