Default positioning rule of thumb

I know there is a lot of latitude with this, but what is the rule of thumb for an image placement on a shirt in relation to the collar? 3" down?...
It will settle a feud with my partner.

thanks.

I leave a space of 4 fingers from the bottom of the collar to the image.

I usually do 3 to 4 fingers from the bottom of the collar to the top of the image. And it's going to depend on the size of the image as well as the size of the shirt. Bigger shirts go farther down and smaller ones are closer to the collar.

If the image is wide and short, it will go lower on the shirt. If the image is tall and narrow, it will go higher on the shirt. There really isn't a rule to follow. It's something you just have to get a hang for and be able to know what looks good.

full back and full front prints we use the 3 to 4 finger rule yet always go by sight on a sample T just to be safe. All designs vary in width and length thus warrants a slight change in print hang

left chest we use
4.5 down from bottom of collar and 4.5 from middle of shirt. X marks the center of the print.

3-4 inches is reasonable. On the front, we start about 2 inches from the collar.

Is that 4.5 inches or fingers?
