Default Curing??

Hi

Im printing with plastisol and dont yet have a dryer. Ive heard that you can cure your prints by ironing them. I tried this last night with a piece of paper between the shirt and the iron. I found that when i peeled the paper from the shirt it stuck to the ink slightly. (i did gel dry the shirt on the platern with a heat gun first)

Does this mean that im curing too hot or not hot enough. I suppose the ultimate test is washing it which i havent done yet.

could anyone shed any light on this for me.

Thanks in advance you wonderful people
James

With waterbased, not with plastisol.

I use my heat press to cure my tshirts and i'm using plastisol ink. I actually press down on my shirts making contact with light pressure. I place the shirt down and then place my teflon sheet over the shirt and press the platen down on it and cure it for 20 seconds.

The only problem is if you are doing both sides of the shirt then make sure to just let the heat press hover over the shirt allowing maybe 2 inches of space between shirt and upper platen. This is done at 350 degrees for me and it typically takes me 1 minute to cure each side properly.

I have a dryer but it doesn't always work that great. I almost always finish the shirts with the heat press if I don't feel completely secure with the curing from the dryer. I guess it's just a crappy dryer.

jamesshaw,
how did it turn out? i'm also thinking about printing using plastisol (as soon as i get my startup kit), but i dont have the money to buy a real dryer to cure the ink. i'm planning to go your route first. thanks alot.

The very next thing to buy is the flash dryer. I don't have the space to buy a conveyor dryer since i'm working out of my basement right now.

I keep getting requests for oversized designs around 18" x 20", I have been looking for a platen to meet that need.
