Default printing question

Hi everyone
I have a question I'm printing on gildan black shirts with royal blue ink 110 screen. The ink looks ok before it goes in the drier but when it comes out the blue looks black. I tried putting more ink with print, flash but not much luck.

Thanks Rob

You would be best off underbasing this color. It'll make the royal look, well, royal.

Use two screens and print a layer of white....flash...print the Royal over the white. You will probably want to put a slight outline (1-2 pts) around the art on the royal screen. This will help you keep registration.

Amen!

Or you can apply an outline of another color around the white base to 'choke' it back 1 or 2 points.

Tell us about the ink. From you description, it is not an opaque ink and the black shirt color is coming through the Royal Blue ink.

This is why people have recommended printing another color first, flashing it to 210 F degrees so it has been partially gelled, then printing your Royal ink on top - then curing both colors.

Three operations to achieve one color. This is a curse of printing on darks that you have to explain to your customer why you want to charge the same rate as 3 colors on a light shirt - and the screens should cost more also.

Your ink company has an opaque Royal I'll bet.

It's also time for you to buy the 'primer' for textile screen printing, "How To Print T-Shirts for Fun and Profit".
