I'm sorry to be blunt, but this question shows a fundamental lack of understanding of what either of these print processes entails. The answer to the question is not meaningful. You need to do more research - there's lots of answers out there to be had, but you need to do the reading.
But in a nutshell, the "real difference" is that one is a desktop computer printer, and the other is a manual human driven process.

Screenprinting is not really a machine as such, it's more of a (sometimes complicated, sometimes simple) human operated tool.

Yes, it is a class A felony.
Or... hang on... no, it's just a waste of your time and ours. Like I said, you need to do more research. I gave you some leads and briefly answered most of your questions. But in order to ask the right questions, you need to understand what you're asking - which you currently don't. I didn't say that's "a crime", I said you won't gain anything from it.
As I said, go read some of the many threads that have already been posted, and you will be in a much better position to ask specific questions and understand the answers.
Help doesn't always mean feeding with a silver spoon. I am helping you. I'm not being nice about it (mea culpa, mea culpa), but I am giving you the help you need.
Re: What Is The Difference Between A Dtg Printer And A Screen Printer?
Maybe some websites of the different types of machines might help you. This is not a complete list, but some of the ones right off the top of my head. Solmu summarized it pretty well in that DTG is a desktop printer that prints directly to an item and screen printing is more manual and requires extra steps (i.e. burning screens, pushing ink,...). Hope it helps.
Re: What Is The Difference Between A Dtg Printer And A Screen Printer?
waste of time? well Solmu you aren't obligated to answer any threads that you feel are a waste of your precious time. or even bother to read them!
Perhaps other forum friends in this community can share their experiences with these two machines,
Reseach is one thing and asking for peoples recommendations and sharing personal experiences is another... and you do not have to engage if you are not going to do so in a friendly manner.
I have had nothing but postive experiences in this forum community and hope to continue to do so...
Re: What Is The Difference Between A Dtg Printer And A Screen Printer?
Mark gave you some good links that should give you a basic understanding of the two processes.
Think of the DTG as a desktop printer (just like Solmu described it) just like any Epson you might use to print on normal paper. It just prints directly onto the shirt instead of the paper. DTG allows you to print photorealistic images.
Screenprinting is typically a manual process (although there are semi & fully automated machines out there) where ink is pushed through a screen, that contains your design, with a squeegee. Screenprinting typically requires specific colors (spot) and is more expensive and labor intensive the more colors that are in the design. Unless you can do a 4-color process.
I am fairly new to DTG and have never done Screenprinting but have been exposed to it in various forms. So, I tried to keep my feedback simple and basic. There are many others on this forum who can elaborate much more than I can.
Good luck....hope this helped a bit
