Hello folks,
So far I have only printed on metal, overlayed with a high intensity sheeting. The inks used don't need heat curing. I am just getting into printing on garments and will be getting a flash unit soon. Has any experienced printers out there ever used a flash unit that had regular oven heating elements? It would be easy to fabricate this type of unit and far less costly than some of the models I've been looking at. Any help would be great!
Thanks.
Hi Rick, I cant see why it wouldnt work, You need a radiant heat source to get to a certain temp. I would of done the same thing 'cept I dont know how. There is a metal fab. up the road i will visit when i need a second one, maybe he could custom build my second one. Curious as to how it would turn out, would you let everyone know if it works(or doesnt).Welcome to the forums. What are ya printing w/ the overlayed metal and what kind of ink does that, does it cure on its own?Im just curious.
Hey, Gerry. Nice to meet you. The overlayed metals are sign blades for traffic control. I work in a county sign shop and make signs with plotter cut vinyl and a screen press. Our ink is solvent based (3M), and just dries on the rack. I will let you know if it works. Hopefuly we'll hear from some more folks and get this figured out............ How many watts, burner placement, etc........
Ihave an adjustment on mine where you can raise/lower it,its 16x16.I woul try maybe a larger element, Standard oven type thing. It doesnt seem difficult, doesnt
need a thermostat or any thing fancy, jeez now you got me wanting to make one.
Im also a signmaker
I know what your feeling. Now imagine.......if these things work, you could add a couple of elements and pretty much fabricate a curing oven out of a sheet metal box. The belt setup would be the hardest thing to put together, but a person could save a lot money and have a large capacity curing oven. .....I really need to stay focused on the flasher right now though. It's easy to get side tracked and sit around dreaming about how to put together a whole pro shop and not get anything done!
