Default Taking the plunge...Ink insanity

Howdy all,

Newbie here with spinning head. To much info to digest at one time so I thought I might post particular questions for a more direct answer if anyone would be so kind as to address them.
Since I will be doing white/light on black, all my inquiries are with that in mind.
I think for the first attempts I would like to stay with the waterbased ink, I looked into Versatex, Speedball, Union Aerotex. I'm leaning to the Union stuff, however, is a curative required using or can it be heat set with an iron or press to full cure without issues? What is expected open time on uncatalized waterbased ink?

Second question, if Plastisols are heat cure, and transfers are plastisol anyway, why can't they be screened and cured on a heat press with a transfer paper/teflon sheet, etc. Anyone have insight on this???

Last question, Is capillary film just a flexible as emmulsion in detail and sharpness? Is there a howto article of some kind on it's proper application and use?

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

I do not use waterbased inks so I cant help there yet you can use Cap films for your emulsion. Essentially works like regular emulsion with the difference of how you apply to the screens.

We use CAP film for our specialty ink printing.

You can heat set it with an iron or heat press. I'm not really sure what you mean by "without issues"; if you use an iron you can never be quite sure it's properly cured.

As in the shelf life of waterbased ink without an air dry catalyst added? Months.

Plastisol transfers are semi-cured with professional equipment (the same you'd use for a full cure on garments) before they are sent off to be applied with a heat press. The heat press only finishes the job.

There might be something on screenprinters.net
