Question Gradieants?

I would like to know if gradiants can be done in silk screen. I have a couple of designs that i would like to have done in silk screen, but most of them have gradiant effects. I would really like to get these done, so if it can be done do i have to have each color in it's own layer?
Greatly appreciated.

also forums search for separations and or seps.

You can easily do halftones yet you will be required to have some special equipment/software in order to print the halftone patterns to films.

A search for RIP and or rip software will help as well.

If it's just a blue gradient, it should be considered a 1 color. They might however charge an extra seperation fee. It really depends on the printer.

Depends on what "just blue" means - blue into shirt colour = 1 colour, blue into a different blue or another colour (navy blue to baby blue, or blue to white on a black shirt) = 2 colours

Solmu thank you for clearing that up for me. 1 more question, is there any guidelines for details on the designs. Because some of my designs have a lot of detail. Is there any way to know how much detail a silk screener can do?

A good screen printer can do just about anything you can design. You just do the design and let the printer worry about how to print it. Of course some designs may cost more to print than others, but your screen printer will explain your options when you take it them.

You can ask the screen printer your working with if they can handle it.

Try the gradients keyword tag search for more answers and examples of what screen printing can do:

Thanks for clearing that up.

Hey rodney that's a very cool website, their designs are awesome.

So it pretty much depends on level of skill that a silk screener has.
That's great, the design i'm going to get screen printed is just writting, but it's one of those fancy fonts with lots of ornaments and i was worried that it wouldn't come out exactly the way i wanted.
Thanks again.

Any decent screen printer should be able to pull that off. If they balk at it, find another screen printer.

I would have to agree. This is probably one of the easiest types of prints. Printing 101.

Do most silk screeners charge for color separations & can anybody point me to a "how to" seperate the colors and get it ready for the silk screener. thanks.

You will want to let the screen printer will do the seps. There may or may not be an art charge. Just get several estimates and compare them... apples to apples.
