Default 2 ??-Exposure Unit size and Ink for R1800

Just a couple of questions.

What size exposure unit do I need? How well do the foam tops work? (silkscreensupplies.com) Is it better getting one with a lid?

Just bought a used Epson R1800, what kind of ink do I need for silkscreens?

You need an exposure unit with a larger area than your screen size. You will find that all manufacturers will tell you the maximum screen size.

Foam tops work. They're just more labor than vacuum tops.

Vacuum tops are more convenient and simpler to operate.

EPSON pigment inks will produce 1.6 UV density positives with their drivers. A 3rd party RIP will produce halftones and increase ink deposit which will block more UV light during exposure.

There are dozens of Postscript and RIP threads on this site.

I use the epson ink with mine. I tried a 3rd party brand and didn't like the clogging. I'm sure there are some that work well. Just keep asking around.

Ozzie,

I can see you are scared to make a mistake. You want suggestions because you've never done this before, but you are asking questions with no boundaries. You're asking if I know of a better answer than my first one.

In screen making, the standard is the stock EPSON inks when we compare brands. Everybody knows who they are and where to get them. There is very little question that everyone knows that you need a RIP to make halftones and increase opacity.

EPSON pigment inks will produce 1.6 UV density positives with their drivers. A 3rd party RIP will produce halftones and increase ink deposit which will block more UV light during exposure. When I test stock EPSON pigment inks when they are enhanced with iProof's PowerRIP on Ulano Pigment Inkjet film the solid areas read 3.0+ UV density. Great for screen printing.

When you ask about 3rd party inks - there are hundreds. You've got to be more specific. You're asking about products made and filled by unnamed people AND if they are just as good as EPSON factory cartridges, so nobody knows.

Don't let me discourage you from asking questions.
