Default Water Based ink on 50/50 Blend?

I was wondering if water based inks can be used on a 50/50 blend or is water based ink only appropriate for 100% cotton? Thanks.

Hi Derek,

Waterbased inks have been around forever and had some bad characteristics, such as poor washability and drying in the screens. They were recommended for 100% cotton and some synthetic blends. Having said that, Ink manufactures have created a new generation of thermoset waterbased inks with improved washability and printing qualities. As there are so many manufactures you should check with your inks to see what they recommend. I hope this helps and Good Luck.

Most inks are formulated for natural fibres off the shelf, so you'd probably want to include an additive.

Careful with water based inks on synthetics. Solmu is right as well as Snarley. if you use a discharge base it only works on 100% cotton.

Polyester doesn't absorb water based ink which is key to its adhesion.

Adhesive can be added, and only you can determine if that defeats the whole purpose.
